Youngest Grandson makes is first rifle purchase
While visiting from New Mexico over the holidays, our 8 year old Grandson expressed an interest in buying an airsoft pistol which I did not like the idea of. He had saved up about a $135.00. I talked to my son about what his son had told me. I purposed that we get him a .22lr instead that would be treated as a firearm should be.
I said that if we could find a left hand .22lr single shot, I would try to make up the difference between what the boy had and what the rifle would cost. His father agree that getting the rifle was better than the airsoft and thought my offer was very fair. The next day while in Sheridan, WY. I stopped by the Sportsman Warehouse Store to look at what was available there for this beginners rifle. They had a Savage wood stocked left-handed Rascal that pretty well filled the bill. I purposed this transaction to my youngest grandson that evening. The next morning he and his 10 year old brother went with me to Sheridan to make this purchase. After trying out the fit of the rifle he thought it was just the right rifle to buy. The staff at the stored worked very well with us to make this important investment. Helping take time to explain what we had to do legally to purchase it We went out to where I shoot between Dayton and Ranchester and shot it for the first time. I forgot the SD Chip for my camera, darn it, so no photos from that event. I had used his Grandmother's camera for the trip into town. He did very well shooting one 1"x1 1/2 " five shot group at 25 yards from a portable bench and padded rest. His brother shot my Ruger 10/22 over the same range and did well also.

Great pick eagle! I bought my boy a rascal on his 5th b-day and he loves it.
Another fun idea is get one of those inexpensive shooting gallery's Think I paid $25 for the one I got and it has 4 different steel swingers from 1"- 4". They get instant feedback and it really gets them excited. |

Good pick and a memory that will last a lifetime. My grandson loves to break clay birds. I started him at 25 yards and worked up to 100 yards. Kids really enjoy seeing them break.

Great to see Lowell!
Thank you for getting young people started in the sport. I enrolled my 11 y/o son Ian in a youth trap league that is basically all instruction. He really enjoys shooting and it is really fun to go shoot a couple of rounds with him. |
