Default Well Steve..

I sure have thought about it.
Would think you could have about 3000fps,almost like a reloadable 17WSM
with a 20grn bullet.

Uh... because it's not a 17-5 mm?

I had everything ready to do one - then thought I would instead do the 17x28 ( same bolt face) - which left me feeling 20less so at that time had purchased an extra 591 barrel and was going to rechamber it to the 20x28... finally sold that barrel to a person in need and kept it the original 5mm mag. Once in a while I do come to my senses, although not often.

I'm sure someone somewhere has done one but if you do it, you'd be the first guy I know that has done one.

If it's something you really want to do,GO FOR IT! I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Some of my most rewarding things I've done was not cost efficient or made sense to the average Joe ..

THanks guys--appreciate the comments. Will think on it some. Could be a great XP-100 project.

I don't have a center fire version, but we did play with a RF version a few years back.

This is a photo of two 5mm rounds on the left (one with a VMax bullet) and two 17cal versions on the right (VMax and vendor made 20gr HP).

There just wasn't the interest at the time, so the project was scrapped...

apologies for the weird orientation of the photo; its early and cell phone pics always seem to rotate 90* for some odd ball reason.

I just grabbed these (and my cell phone) out of the desk, since they were close by...

Need more coffee...

Thks. Marine--that is a fascinating little cartridge. Trying to think of a short range pigeon/crow cartridge (might be just the ticket). Might be even "neater" as a 14.

Default 17 Craig

I bought a "project" P.O.S. at the Roseburg Oregon gun show years ago. The barrel was on but buggered up. Shortened it up to clear the train wreck and got a reamer from Dave K and dies from Dave D [CH4D] and finally got it together. Mr. Craig in Wa wa going to make magazines of metal but I made one and it finally worked. MAJOR PITA!!! Cases as I recall were about 1.00 each though. It shot VERY well and if Bullseye was used it could be shot intown as long as the patrol car wasn`t parked in front.
Finally put a decent Myrtle stock on it and made a few bucks. Too much work but ?????
Aloha, Mark
