Default Nosler 17REM bras

I purchased some 17Rem Nosler brass for my custom built 17Rem. When I seated the bullet in one to check the neck it measures .195, but the neck on my rifle is .196. How much should I trim, if any? The Remington brass I use is usually around 193. Should I trim to match that? Just checking before I do something stupid.

Thanks
Harmon

That may be a little tight, but you should see what neck your chamber has in real life, likely it is .0005 to .001 larger than you think. I would probably shoot it with .001 clearance but I would check to see if the thicker brass carries through to the rest of the case and decreases your capacity by any amount worth worrying over. Yes it is .196, it was built by Greg Tannel, and that is what he used.

If the reamer was .196 then the neck is bigger, you just need to find out how much bigger, cast the chamber and see what you have. No two will be the same. Larry

Yes - would be nice to have such a tight neck. Standard loading laws/rules apply, of course.

Default 17rem neck

I would take a few cases and do a skim cut on the neck and re-check it. If this is not a gun that your going to compete with and you want reliable feeding in the field I would go with 3 thou of clearance, your loaded round is going to be .193. Super tight clearances have been nothing but a PIA for me with a field gun and really won't make that big of a difference if any in accuracy or case life. We're not talking about a factory chamber/barrel here.

I'd turn them for .193-.194".

Thanks guys, I'm going to run them the same as the Remington brass .193, that way they are all the same. I do have to trim more on these than the Remington brass to get my trim length to 1.790
