25-20
Has anybody played around with the 25-20? I shot one today for the first time in a Winchester lever gun. What a hoot! Hitting cans at 50yds pretty easy. I small bolt gun would great little walking gun. I wonder if a b-mag action would be a good start. Anybody play around with the old little round?

I've reloaded and shot my father in-laws Winchester lever gun in 32-20. Fun round to shoot. Absolutely no recoil. Good times .

I've got a couple of them, both Winchesters, a model 1892 and a model 53. Hornady makes a good varmint bullet, The 60 grn. flat nose and I also cast some 85 grain lead. If you want to eat what you shoot don't use the 60 grn. Hornady's as they are pretty destructive. The cast lead you can eat right up to the hole, no blood shot and very little tissue damage. I've whacked a few coons and skunks and it opens them up pretty good with the 60's. I've taken a few rabbits with the cast and they were meat friendly.

Have looked at a few 25-20's never owned or shot one.
32-20 a bit different. All I have are on handgun the platforms. TC,BF and a Ruger buckeye with 32-20 and 32 mag cylinder. Shot a lot with the 10" TC barrel for IHMSA. Frame will handle a lot more than the old original guns. Loads with slow powder and heavy bullets were right with the 30x221 flavored rounds. Have run everything from 110-220 bullets. Jacketed my TC barrel had a preference for Sierra 180 and 190's. The BF has such a short throat long jacketed took up to much case capacity. That pushed me over the edge and into cast bullets. Run a RCBS Sil 165 and a dose of WC820. Accuracy out to 200 meters is there if I do my part on follow through. Short range, 100, I use a Lyman 120 30 carbine mold and a sprinkle of bullseye gives a very soft recoil and low muzzle blast with authoritative thump on recieving end. There are those that use the 25-20 for the short range field pistol targets. I like and prefer a caliber I can get multi use out of, equals more trigger time. Another reason I went with the 32-20/30-20. TC and BF are 308 bore. Both fine cartridges that are highly over looked by the magnumitis crowds. Want magnum? My Blackhawk will do it, push a custom mold 140 cast plain base to 1500 fps and change with fine accuracy. Jeff |

Well I guess it's not gonna happen. No one is currently producing brass and when you can find a few pieces here and there , the asking price is 5x what's it's worth. 32-20 brass is even hard to find and very expensive. Shooting 250 rounds yesterday cost about 450.00 to replace it. WOW. It's was a nice idea though.

I shoot a 25-20 SS which is an older cartridge designed for black powder single shot rifles. I shoot it in Remington Hepburn. It is a hoot to shoot but the brass is a bit pricy at 2.00 plus each. I have not reloaded it enough to know many loadings that it will be good for. Right now the accuracy is sketchy. This summer should allow more time for load development.
Buffalo Arms will have all of the brass and components for both cartridges. Rider |

25-20
Starline line sells 32-20 brass if you want to do the sizing down to 25-20 not cheap but a way out if you are desperate for 25-20.

Impressive Performer...
For many years the cartridge that killed the most deer in North America was the Winchester 25-20. A little under powered by today's standards. But, still impressive history of the cartridge.

The 32 -20 I loaded for we used starline brass. Seemed to be good stuff. Like others have said I'm sure it can be necked down.
