Default 204 RUGER - 1st Custom Rifle

My first (centerfire) custom. It's only a RUGER but it shoots well.

It started from 2 RUGER MKII's, a SS 223 sporter that wouldn't shoot and a 22-250 VT (gray).
I used the VT receiver, trigger & stock with the 223 SS bolt.

The SS barrel was aquired from a freind who was working on another 20 cal project.

I did all the work, barrel threading (twice), chambering, polishing and the stock fitting.
Only 2 years in the making.

Custom bi-pod...if time were money I'd have 10 HARRIS bi-pods.

7 shots....It's not one hole but a dead PD for sure.

And he can shoot it too! I saw several p-dogs with some impressive acrobatics after being touched by this rifle.

The bi-pod told me who you are.

(Jay I think he shoots as well off hand as most do from a bi-pod!!)

give ur self a pat on the back, theres nothing wrong with those groups, check ur powder/primer combo and bullet seating depth and I bet u can shrink those groups right up...Besides look at he bright side, your not verticaly stringing...one less thing to worry about..

What barrel manfu. and twist u running there?
and type and grain of bullet....

Try the Berger 40's if u can, shoot lights out!!! The V-Maxs are good too..

Default 204 Ruger

Thanks Guys..

Barrel - 1:12 Green Mountain

The target loads were left over from my last PD outing
Powder - 29.1 g VV N-140
Primer - CCI 400 (just got 1000 REM 205's)
Bullet - 32g Vmax seated to 2.255" COL
Loaded on my Hornady AP

The only problem seems to be fouling - it takes forever to get the barrel clean.

Someday I'll get the time to play with other bullets.
Right now I'm playing with a 6PPC.

It may take like 50 rnds or so before the fouling lightens up. Being a Green Mountain Barrel, might run some USP Bore Paste down the barrel to polish and or get some rough spots out. My Pac-Nor barrel shot alot like that with the 32's and then the 40's tighten right up, I feel like the 40's with some Federal Primers and RL-10x, you'll have a great combo.

later..tim

vv140 is a great powder but both my 204's prefer h322 and benchmark, 27.5 gr of benchmark with a 32 gr sierra blitzking produces 3830 fps and sub .50 groups and 27.5 gr h322 with the same bullet produced 3919 fps with sub .50 groups.
work up to these loads as no 2 rifles are a like, except my 2, they both like the same load.

Default Looks like I need more bullets & powder

My 20 cal bullet selection is a little limited - 32g vmax.

I'll try some 32 & 40g Bergers & 40 vmax next.

I need some H322 anyway.

Got a new 6PPC thats still looking for a good load - Sorry G. Wenzel I got to Doug D. first.
