My 6.5x284 project is finished!
It's been almost a year since I found a 6.5x284 built on a Mexican Mauser action with an unfinished stock at a local gun store. The metal work and the stock inletting made it clear that a craftsman had performed the work. The rifle looked to have serious potential. I gave Rocky Hayes a free hand to checker the stock and he did an outstanding job.
I just wish I could get the photos to display. Hopefully you can see them if you follow the image link. John Last edited by Johnly; 05-25-2019 at 08:52 PM. |

I'm a big fan of most things based off of the 284, with the 6-284 and 6.5-284 being my favorites.
What weight bullets are you going to shoot, 130 - 140 grainers? It's hard to find, ok, it's nearly impossible to find, but if you can get your hands on some RL26, that is "the" powder for my 6.5-284 and the 130 - 140's. Congrats on your new rifle! |

Very nice! I have recently been bit by the 6.5 bug. It’s a 6.5 Bullberry in a 15 inch barrel and is amazingly accurate and fun to shoot. Many years ago I thought room is a little bit crazy when he went to build a 6.5 x 284 but now I’ve seen the light.

Johnly, that is a beautiful rifle. May I ask who did the stock work. Thanks, Jordan

The unfinished rifle was part of an estate sale that was being sold at a local gun store. I finished the stock and Rocky Hayes(Eugene, OR) checkered the stock.
That's all of the history of it I know. |
