Default 20BR powders

Are there any powders that work best for 20BR?
Recommendations?
Thanks.

You will find a wide range of powders that work well in the 20BR. It does not seem to be a picky cartridge to load for.
A few that I have used that work well are H-4895, Varget and VV N-540,
I know that Gary W shoots one of the Ramshot powders with good results.
I found that almost any of the powders I tried shot well at 100 yds and was not able to pick one over the other until I shot at 300 yds. At that range I got my best groups with Varget. Every rifle will probably show a preferece you just have to find it.

I'm getting ready to reload for 20BR, and want to chose a couple of powders to start with. I don't fancy having a whole slew of powders.
Thanks.

Hey! I have only used 2 powders for my 20BR.
1st was N135 30.8grs. shot a .241 group, 2nd was with N140 32.2grs.
Forgot the 1st was with 39gr. Sierra BK , and 2nd was also with 39gr. Sierra's Moly-ed and shot a .272 group@100yds. I think 20BR to be a forgiving cartridge!
Work up to your loads.

Do you presently have any powders on hand to choose from? The more that get listed as good for the 20BR the better chance you will have one on hand already to try.
If not any of those mentioned have a good chance of working well for you. Take your pick. Availability may make a difference in what you choose also.

You are a good man! A 20 BR and no powder!!! I can see it now, you pick the first powder you come across the darn thing likes it and you still only have one powder and a nice shooting 20 BR.... I wish that was me!!!

Rem is right, they like about anything. I personally look for a nice metering powder and Ramshot Tac worked out very well with the Hornady 40 gr bullets!

Also might look at the BR4 primers for your 20 BR

Default 20br > H4198

All I've used over the last 2 years has been H4198
Rilfe is a BAT 26" PacNor x 1:11
Pet load is:
27.4 gr. H4198 with Berger 40 @ avg. 3983 fps ES 6.55 and SD 3.46

I initially tried the following with accruacy levels not as good as H4198

36.0 H414 avg 3836 ES 46.30 and SD 24.18
33.6 Varget avg 3970 ES 36.41 SD 18.73
30.0 Benchmark avg 3716
33.4 W748 avg 3976 ...bolt was sticky upon ejection

I've got Lapua brass, Federal primers, and Hornady 40gr. bullets to get me started. Just have to decide on powder.
Thanks.

Default primer choice

I'd suggest the CCI BR-4 primer
