38spl load in 357mag case
Although not a small caliber, it is a small case. I would like to stick with one case (357 mag) and load for a mild target load and a good hunting load. I would also like to stick to a jacketed bullet for both. Does anyone else do this? Or a better question is, can it be done?
Thanks, Qaz |

38 spl load in 357 mag case
Yes, it can be done, many books show light loads for the 357 mag and velocities in the 38 spl range.
It is also a good idea to use these in your 357 chamber, as you will not cause the ring, in the chamber, that you will or can get by using 38 spl brass. Enjoy and have fun.. Bill K |

I agree with Bill K's comment, only suggesting you try the plated bullets offered by Berry's, Rainier, and others. Less expensive to start with, and you don't need to worry about jacket separation no matter how light you go. Most loading manuals have warnings concerning jacket separation. I've done lots of light loads over time in the .357 mag using Bullseye and manual data. W231 also works well, TrailBoss probably would too. Lots of other choices, but those would top my list.

I shoot mostly .38sp ammo thru my Security Six, and have seen no damage/fouling caused by it. Most reloading manuals show both loads. Swaged lead, if shot at lower velocities does not cause leading. I DO like the Berrys bullets however.
What are you hunting with them? |

I am going to do the same thing, loading practice ammo for my Taurus .357 Mag and my father's S&W.
I called Sierra's tech support line and their guy recommended using Bullseye because it is not position sensitive when using light charges in the .357 Mag case to duplicate .38 Special velocity. |

Bullseye works great in both .38 Special and light .357 Mag loads, plenty of manual data available. Berry's recommends using cast bullet data for their products, and there's plenty of that available. Lyman manuals, any edition, are great sources for that sort of data. |

Whatever he said.
I have used a lot of bullseye loads. A lot of info in my old Lyman book. I will look something up on request. Kenny
