Berger does recommend a 7 twist for their 55gr 20 cal bullets. I have a
Pac-Nor, 7 twist , chambered in a 20-223 AI. They performed will, but were too expensive for me to shoot at squirrels on a regular basis. Went back to the Hornady 40gr V-Max. Anything less than a 40 gr bullet in this 1 in 7 twist barrel just spun them apart. |

^ VS - that is a problem with the fast twist. I have an eight twist on my 20 Extreme and it shoots the 55 grain quite nice, I can go down to 40's but that is it. Pretty sure when I first built my 20 Extreme Berger was saying eight twist for them (that's why I got it) but has changed to seven since. Mine was rigged up for shooting coyotes not squirrels. I have another short barrel with a ten twist that I would load up for squirrels/ground squirrels. Wish I could stumble upon a large box or two of the 55's on sale somewhere. I don't think they ship them in bulk packs though.

It is the 222 Remington, necked to 20 and shortened to 1.575". Good round no fire forming, size 'em and go.
