I couldn't make them work in my 20BR. Holes are nice and round but the groups 1 1/2 to 2 inch

I have a 20-250 build going together right now to pretty much exclusively shoot the Berger 55's. We spent a great deal of time talking about what twist rate to go with, 1-9 or 1-8, ended up going 1-8tw Krieger to be on the safe side though I've heard some shoot them fine out of a 1-9tw.
Ken Weaver has built quite a few 20-250's as well as other hot rod 20's and he was one of the people I talked to before ordering a barrel, he suggested the 1-8tw, especially if you plan on mostly shooting the Berger 55's. I don't believe a 1-10tw would be nearly fast enough to stabilize those 55's. |

Did not know you could order an 8 twist .20 cal from Krieger. Is that a special order item?

When in doubt, over spin it. About 20 years ago, I had a 6-284. It was set up to shoot the 107 Sierras at a good clip, I'd have to consult my old log but 3400 sounds close. I had an 8 or 8.5 twist on the rifle, and it was a solid .5moa gun at 300 yards.....was great in the wind at 1000.
I ended up going on the PS magazine 'Prairie Dog Conference' and one of Chuck's rules was no bullets over 100gr. I loaded up some 70gr Nosler BT and again, I'd have to check my logs but I think I hit 4100ish. Got the same .5moa groups at 300. I think those 70gr would have been quite happy out of a 14 twist, but performed excellent in a twist almost twice as fast. That rifle demonstrated to me that you can't over stabilize a bullet.....unless it's a thin jacket and blue streaks. |

Thanks
Thanks guys for all the replies, I thought that would be the case.
I got an AR 15 barrel with 1/10- 20 inch for my new coyote gun and will shoot 35 Bergers just thought about playing with some 55's, but after I posted the question it occurred to me they could not be shot at mag length anyway. So Thanks again, always fun to kick stuff around with you guys. sgtg |

I think with cut rifled barrels they can do about any twist you want so I'm not sure it was a special order per say but definitely not something they keep in stock though. The one thing Krieger won't do is make a 20 cal barrel longer than a finish length of 26 inches.

I could be wrong but I think Berger recommends 7 twist for that bullet

The larger case capacity wildcats that can shoot this bullet 3700 fps or faster, per Berger, will be at or above the stability factor using a 1-8tw barrel. |
