Default 2011 Prarie Dog season opener

Yesterday was the season opener for Prairie Dogs on public land in Colorado. Lots of dogs and pups.

A buddy and I went out to a couple of towns that we frequent.

This area is for Rimfire only so we used our .17 HMRs, lots of shooting.

This is a area we walked around instead of just sitting on a hill. I used My Bog shooting tripod.

We each shot close to 100 rounds and totalled about 60 dogs. Most of our shots sere in the 200+ yd range.

Lots of fun, can't wait to get my 20 VartTarg going (I'm close).

Default My favorite shooting style too...

I am getting ready to leave this Saturday for some Nebraska prairie dogs. I like walking the towns and shooting off my Stoney Point shooting sticks. I like the mobility and ability to sneak up on to a mound over a rise and take out a group of pups or adults. When shooting from a bench and fixed location the dogs soon learn where the danger is coming. I have used my 17HMR for the walking style numerous times with 200 yard plus shots being no problem. My favorite rifle now for this is my 17AH and a close second my 20AB. Both rifles will decimate the dogs easily out to 300 plus yards. The hit ratio always is higher and the dogs stay up longer.

Default Video of the 17AH and prairie dogs

I am looking forward to doing more of this with the 17AH. I have since bought a small tripod to use to eliminate the camera shake.
