If you could have just one rifle....
If you could have just one rifle (for varmint and coyotes), what would it be? Let's hear your choices and why? Also, barrel weight, length, stock choice etc. would be interesting to hear.

Thanks for the response! What weight bullets do you shoot in it?

Ruger red pad 1V,223. I load 55 GR Varmageddons over H322, very accurate. My previous go to load was 53 GR SMKs over H322. I was very surprised that the Varmies did so well, I won't complain. Second place goes to my Ruger 1A 22 Hornet with 40 GR Varmageddons over Lil Gun powder.

I would be hard pressed to choose between my Howa 1500 in 20 SCC and my Rem 700 in 20-223ai. Both run heavier varmint/sporter Xcaliber barrels with 3 groove, 1/11 twist and shoot the non-lead bullets, Nosler/Hornady 32 grainers super accurately. Bill K ( But my CZ527 in 17 Hornet is a close 3rd.)

Thanks guys. Keep the responses coming! Bill what in heck is a .20 SCC? Thought I knew all the .20 Wildcats. Also, what is your barrel length? Are you shooting the 55 grain Bergers in those rifles? TIA.

I've had lots of fun with my heavy barreled Olympic arms AR in 223 shooting 53 grain Vmax's. No Exit wounds and DRT. Very accurate. Tough to beat the semi auto feature for multiple critters...…

But, I suppose if I had to pick just one, for me, I'd likely keep it pretty basic and go with a 22-250 or 22 Creedmoor with a 9 twist barrel in something like a #5 contour finished at 24 inches. As for which stock, probably a McMillan Varmint model and if no price cap, I'd go with their Edge Technology fill. |
