In my opinion, this is not a good solution:

If you are seeing a howa chassis that is using 308 magazines, it is probably a regular full size one and not a mini. MTD has talked about doing a chassis for the mini with their own magazines, but nothing is available to the public so far. Their catalog has a picture of a prototype:

I hope they make it; I would buy one.

My 223 magazines (3 of them) all work great in my mini, but they are giving up COL that hopefully MDT will fix. The receiver can work with 2.5" and would be nice for a variety of cartridges.

I was being lazy and didn't post the links for the Howa Mini upgrade/replacement parts.

DIP's replacement bottom metal (uses factory plastic magazine)
https://www.diproductsinc.com/Products.aspx?CAT=12462

CDI's replacement bottom metal (uses 308 size magazines... not factory plastic magazine that are for shorter cartridges... 223, 6.5 Grendel, etc)

MDT makes 2 versions of their chassis (LSS and LSS XL) that specifically fits Howa Mini and use the Mini's factory plastic magazines (not .308 magazines):

LSS Gen 2 Chassis (7.9" forearm/rail)
https://mdttac.com/us_en/lss-chassis-system.html

LSS XL Gen 2 (forearm/rail is 11.7 forearm/rail")
https://mdttac.com/us_en/lss-xl-gen2...is-system.html

A former Howa employee just joined MDT so hopefully he will help convince MDT to develop a replacement metal magazine for the Mini action.
