Hi All,

I’m on my way deer hunting and we’re at the cabin shooting a Ruger .22 air rifle at 20 yds at targets for fun. The scope is junk. Do any of you have recommendations on a better scope for around 50-60 $?

Spring air rifles in particular are notorious for killing regular powder rifle scopes, the spring/piston slamming forward is not the stress a powder rifle scope was designed to withstand.

Go to one of the air rifle boards to learn more-

And a 10/22 will kill a top of the line scope too. Had a Leupold 4X mounted on my 10/22. Finally figured out why I couldn't see the cross hairs? They came loose and rattled around in the tube.
Shipped it back to Leuplod and they replaced them "with the wrong cross hairs".
Mounted it back up and in short order, they fell out again?
Shipped it back and this time, I got the right cross hairs.
I was told that the recoil of the 10/22 is what caused the cross to come loose??
After sending that scope back TWICE for repair, I've lost all my faith in Leupold scopes.
Make sure you get a scope that fits YOUR application.

What about a red dot? I have one on a 10/22 that's good for following rabbits after a fresh snow.

Cabelas has a couple, Flying Dragon Airguns has a 4x32 ao scope that is rated for springers in your price range. make sure they are rated for springers. Go to Youtube and search Cyclops Joe and scope review. I have no personal use of any on a springer, because I just shoot PCP's.

Simmons used to make air rifle scopes that seemed to hold up okay. Don't know if they still do. Mine was a 6-18x and had AO.

Leapers may be what you're looking for.

A little out of your price range but I have a Weaver Rimfire Classic on an RWS Model 34 .22 cal with around 1000 pellets down range and the scope performs as expected. The scope sat on a Marlin 917V for years until I started shopping for scopes for the air rifle and I came across this on the Weaver page: "Classic Rimfire is designed to withstand the multi-directional recoil from the heaviest spring-loaded adult airguns."

Good luck!

Default air gun scope

NeilA,
I have a Simmons ProAir 6 - 18 x 40 with AO on a 17 cal RWS 52 which is a heavy springer. It has been on the gun for 15 years or longer. I do not shoot the gun much but the scope has functioned well. The bigger issue is finding mounts that will hold with the double recoil of this spring gun. I finally went with the RWS mounts and they have performed well.
