17 Rem from 204 Ruger brass
Hi, I have read up a lot about this subject including several of Silverfox's excellent posts. I see that several people recommend the nr 1 form die, then the trim die, then FL sizer etc. I saw a post on youtube by Ammosmith where he sizes a 30-06 case to 250 Savage with a 250 Savage FL sizer in small increments( about 20?)
I was wondering, is this a more viable way to make 17 rem brass? What about a 17 Rem body die to bump the 204 Ruger shoulder a little and then 17 Rem FL sizer in small increments, trim near to spec and deburr and then FL size with expander / trim again and anneal as last stage. I am completely green at this so am grateful for any help or advice. Regards Toby |

Try just putting one in a 17 Remington FL size die and pulling the handle down. You may be surprised how it works out. Larry

I tried this in the past with some Federal 204 brass but it creased the shoulders, anything you are leaving out we should know about? Aaron

I did mine, with much success, using a 222 rem FL die, no guts to move the shoulder back to where I wanted it. Then necked it down the rest of the way using a custom bushing die, for another rifle, finally the 17rem FL die. I would anneal before you use the 17Rem FL die, make sure you lube the insides of the necks too.
I expanded mine back up with the K&M 17 expandiron, then turned the necks so they were all the same...the last batch of 204 brass, wasn't very consistent in the neck thickness. Larry
