what powder did you use with the 25-45 and what barrel length?
I have a 24" barrel and was able to hit 3008 fps with a 90 gr bullet. like you i'm not listing the load. 3200 with a 70 gr blitzking and very accurate.

Powder.
Quote:
REM 700 x 24” Brux Stainless barrel. I started with Hot-cor bullets but changed to Sierras. Primers were CCI 400 and then CCI450. Powder was H335, then settled on X-Terminator. Just remembered an anomaly with mine. I got Dave Manson to grind me a chamber reamer and a very reputable ‘Smith here in UK rebarreled my 17 REM. rifle. I checked the rifle with chamber gauges before taking it home. I loaded up some new brass and went shooting....primers were backing out by a few thou! I tried 2 more different sets of chamber gauges and they worked as they should. I ended up expanding the necks up to (I think) 7mm, then made a false shoulder far enough back to get a nice (Slight resistance) fit in the chamber when trying them with all the guts taken out of the bolt. So, in effect, I reckon my case had ever so slightly more H2o capacity than it should have had. I can’t explain why the bolt worked fine with the gauges, but the primers backed out. Cheers,Ken.

Thanks all,
Given me a lot to ponder. Looks as though 6x45 /6tcu will over a worthwhile advantage over 223 for larger game at shorter distances. 25-45 and 257 kimber look interesting - cannot find a gunsmith locally that has reamers. I’m pretty certain on 6tcu at this stage. Reamer available, dies available, brass available. Cheers you fine lot!! Stay healthy. |
