imr 4166 for 204
Has anyone tried the new IMR 4166 powder for the 204?

I have wanted to try it in my 20 Swift, being non-temp sensitive would let you do some very fine load tuning, I have had good luck with 8208 which is also claimed to be non temp sensitive. You may find it a little slow for light bullets however. Larry

IMR 4166 for 204
I am working with it and like it in many ways, but I still can get better FPS, less pressure and use less powder with the old tried and true H or IMR 4198. Just a thought, I feel this temp sensitive thing is somewhat more of a marketing tool, rather than a fully proven fact. Temp/altitude, etc will make a lot of difference in our loads and the pressure we show at a given time while shooting. Bill K

Hodgdon H322 the most accurate powder test in the Ruger .204. See the Ruger .204 site.

yeah used 322 for another rifle and for several friends rifles but this savage hates that powder. tried my pet load of 22.7 322 rem 7 1/2 primer nosler brass and hornady 40 v max. would not shoot. This load has always produced crazy results in our savages. bought a model 12 from cabelas it hates this load. read article in varmint mag on 4166 tried it with a couple of different charges with so so results. more testing. so far h335 producing best groups.
Thanks always interested to learn who is having success with other powders never know when one runs dry. Kind of what we went thru with h4350 for my big guns. solved that issue, can you say multiple 8 lbs ers! lol |

I found 4166 very dirty (carbon) burning in 6BR. Worse than Varget.
