From 10.8 to 12.0 gr. depending on the powder........WW680, AA1680, AA2200......and a 20gr bullet. All on varmints. Silly to waste powder/primer shooting toilet paper while fireforming.
Edit: That's with 17AH. With the HH use a bit less of the same powder. Last edited by Ackman; 08-07-2016 at 05:06 PM. |

My .17 Hornet cases are formed from WW cases using 11.2 grains of 1680 under a 20 grain "Varmint Nightmare X-treme" bullet which are Midsouth's cheap bulk bullet but gophers don't know that . WSR primers for what it's worth.
Forms the cases well, quite accurate and splatters gophers like the dickens. No more "Staked Primers", tapered primer pockets etc, what a disappointment that was.

Hello, all. I've been reading the threads on 17HH for about 8 months now, but only just got my account activated. It's nice to join the community.
For fire forming I'm using 9.8gns of N120 with a 20gn vmax. It's a reasonably low load I know that, but produces a tad under 3000fps - so that's 17wsm territory and plenty good enough for forming the cases provided a seat a tad longer and set the false shoulder right so the case it a slight crush fit in the chamber. I anneal the cases before fire forming. In fact I built an annealing machine to help automate that process. 100 cases takes around 10 minutes to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au0wS9zFFzI (my thumb in that video has been pinned back together after an accident). |
