Default 17 Mach IV

Tested some new load for the 17 Mach IV using a 25gr Berger with H4198 (16.1gr) with CCI 400 primers. Nice accurate load but I'm seeing a few punctured primers (CCI 400). Should I switch to the BR4 primers? Remington 7 1/2 are hard to find right now.

BR-4, CCI 450 or Rem 7.5 would work fine.

Doesn't the CCI 450 (small rifle magnum) create more pressure? I would think the BR4 primers would be the next primer to try. Did find some Rem 7 1/2 primers today, so I think I'm good for now.

Could be, but the thicker shell is what I would be looking for to eliminate the piercing.

I believe the only difference between the CCI 400-450 and Rem. 6.5-7.5 is the thicker cup. I think it was james Calhoon who did a test on the SR primers. But as always when you change something it's a good idea to start low and work up.

If I was piercing CCI 400s and the firing pin tip was properly formed and rounded I would back off the load, not look for a thicker primer. Shooting this same load with a thicker primer when it gets real hot out is likely to create worse problems than just piercing.
