Default Calibre change from 17 Fireball

I have a Remington Model 7 CDL, short action, in 17 Fireball.

When it comes time to rebarrel what options would I have in changing the calibre, using the same magazine, action and bolt ?

Keep in mind the bolt ejection geometry is different in a .17FB than a .223 or other similar diameter base cartridge. Ejection problems may ensue when changing to another caliber.

Check out the new 20 SCC or 17 SCC from Brad at Custom Reloading site. Also info on Small Caliber news site. Same case, but necked up/down and on the lines of a Ackley Improved design. Bill K

I had a 700 CDL 17FB special edition rifle. Rechambered it to 17Tac and it ejected fine.

Now its a 300 Blackout and so much fun to shoot.

The 17 SCC is NOT based on the same case. It is for all practical purposes a tight necked 17 VHA. The 17 VHA is based on 4.6x30 brass.

Very few new cartridges floating around today are really new, but rather they are someone's cleanly washed idea about something that they think is new, but so did someone else long before them.

My favorite internet creation that has probably a dozen folks who claim to be the "proud Papa" is the "entirely new" 20 Practical.

Back in the 1980's it was called a 5MM-223.

Default 20 SSC Info

Here is the info on the 20 SCC from CRT site. Read to clarify what case the 20 SCC is based on.
