Not many yotes around here, unfortunately. But I have head shot fox successfully out to 200 yards with the 17 grain V-Max. Mixed fortune with body shots past 100 yards.
Would the new WSM cartridge be an option, more than HMR but less than a CF ? |

17 hnr
Personally I would stick with the 17 HMR over the new and hard to find (a good rifle and ammo in WSM). A rimfire 17 HMR and for center fire 17 VHA would be my choice. Bill K

17hmr
In rim fire hunting ammo nothing can touch the 17HMR for accuracy! In killing power the HMR has all I need, and like they say dead is dead can't killer any deader!Ive killed yotes, bobcats, turkey, and all small game with the HMR.

Here, one may use shotguns or rimfires for turkey. I suspect I could get away with using one of my flinters in .32 or .40 as well.
Were I to go after turkey this spring, I think I'd be using the .32, and my daughter, the HMR. All head shots, of course- maybe.

Sources tell me
I have heard that when you shoot a doe in the head with a the V-max ammo the opposing eye will pop out... he he
Not saying this is a good idea by the way. |
