Don't know if this is news or not.
Read somewhere that .223 Ball ammo will be classed as armour piercing, therefore making it illegal for general use.

A little more complicated than that, it is a proposal to remove an exemption which should never have had to be there because the ammo does not meet the definition. Larry

I think it may only be the 62g Green Tip that have the steel core. I haven't actually seen anything in writing yet.

This be the one, they are starting with. One more nail in our coffin. This is not armor piercing, but they will re-classify it as such for a start on their quest to dis-arm American and our U.S. Constitution and the Amendments therein. Bill K

They already classify it as armor piercing, and have had an exemption for it in place, they now want to remove the exemption. Larry

My understanding is the M855 is classified as a Penetrating round not Armor Piercing. This would mean Doors, Walls, Cinder Block, etc. I have seen it tested on 1/8 in steel plate and it hardly makes a dent.

Here in NJ we have a law on Hollow Point Ammo. Anyone can possess it. If used in a crime it's an additional charge.

I am all for protecting our Law Enforcement. But this ammo will not penetrate a vest. Like Bill says it is just one more step.

Per the Hogue Convention.

Declaration concerning the Prohibition of the Use of Bullets which can Easily Expand or Change their Form inside the Human Body such as Bullets with a Hard Covering which does not Completely Cover the Core, or containing Indentations.

Nothing about Armor Piercing Ammo.

Curiosity got me using google-fu, and I was surprised the ammo being discussed by the new law is steel-tipped green tipped, and real AP is painted black. This is a cool webpage
