Default Trail Boss for reduced velocity loads

I was wondering if anyone has a recipe for the 17FB.

edit.....I found some info, 3.7gr should equal approx 1900fps, 5.9gr approx 2700fps

I have used Trail Boss a lot, you will enjoy it. I have used it in 221FB, 223, 308 and 30-06.

The formula is that a 100% density load is to the base of a seated bullet (not compressed). The accuracy window will be in the 70% -- 100% load density range. This is a factory formula for any bottleneck cartridge with a jacketed bullet. It was reported by Layne Simpson in the 2010 Hodgdon Reoloading Manual (the magazine one, at p.50).

I have loaded at the 85% level and its worked very well. Since the load is small (my 223 load is 6.5 grains) it does not create much heat. This means you can shoot 50 shots in a sporter weight barrel and it only gets warm. It also means you would have to shoot about 60,000 of these loads to use up the accuracy life of a barrel.

I have had a great time with these loads. This is THE way to get to really know your big game rifle. Its also a lot of fun with the small calibers, and its fantastic fun for kids to shoot. I have found the accuracy is the same as you would get with full power loads in the particular rifle.

I think you will enjoy it a great deal. Let me know how it works out for you.
