Berger Bullet length
Could someone please tell me how long the Berger, .204, 30g HP is? Their website didn't list the length.
Thank you. Bob |

I guess this must not be a very popular bullet. I was wondering if they were short enough to use in the 5mm Mag. C.F. and allow for operation through the magazine. I use the 32g VMax and 32g Sierra right now but they are far too long for the magazine and have to be used as a single shot. The accuracy and performance are worth it though.

I must have missed this one...
Sorry.
I have a box of those bullets on the shelf. I'll measure some and post the dimensions tonight or tomorrow morning. |

Bambob: saw your original post, but with computer in the house, Berger's in the shop, and a 50+ y/o brain, I forgot to check...till now.

We sell the 30 grain Bergers with the 5MM Craig conversion. If you shoot a 592 you can carefully load and use the tube. The 591 is a little tighter. I shoot mine as a single shot because it works better for the gopher shooting that we do but then I am not walking around much with it either. With our cases we are getting about 2100 fps with 5.2 grains of AA#9 depending on the rifle.

Lowell,
Are you getting any expansion with the 30g Berger bullet? I shoot the 32g Sierra as a single shot also, but at 2500 fps. I think that's why my Schroeder brass only lasts for about 4 reloads. Bob |

Graphic 5MM Craig Photos
Bob,
We find it to be a great Gopher and PD bullet. It is tougher than the Slick Silvers we used to sell but holds together better on bigger stuff like coons, coyotes and badgers. We are working on better cases that will hold more presure but are not ready to go into production. New cases have been a 3 year project for us. The war, material and Gov't contracts for us and others have slowed us down. I usually don't take pictures of shot critters, but here is a photo of a gopher shot with the 30 gr Berger at about 100 yards. 5.2 grains AA#9 2145 FPS from this rifle with a 22" Douglas barrel here I am testing loads near Sheridan, WY Testing the 30 Grain Berger Bullets on Oregon jackrabbits 2004 Lowell

Coyotes?
Lowell,I had kind of "spotty" luck on coyotes years ago with the Remington bullet. One had a "blow up" on the front of the left shoulder and he ran over the mountain and was lost. The other was placed perfectly in the lungs on a called coyote at about 100 yds. Into the left ribcage and out the right. He ran in a huge circle before dropping dead near the area of the original hit. I had similar luck on coyotes with the 22 WMR with the 40g Winchester soft point. After that I started using the 222 and larger cartridges and had no more losses. (Bigger holes to sew though.)
I hope you are successful in getting some new brass produced. Let me know when it's ready. Bob Last edited by Bambob; 06-12-2009 at 03:23 AM. Reason: Add name. |
