Default 7mmJI

JI stands for John Illum. John was the fellow that owned Rampro and made all the actions. In the late 90's his machine shop was located in Wilmington, NC. John and me spent many days at the range shooting and testing customers rifles and STP's. I have fond memories of a walnut stocked 17 Ackley Hornet that he built. The stock was a benchrest configuration.

The Rampro actions are interesting from a historical perspective, however the washer system seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. John often considered changing the washer system to a standard firing pin spring but never did. Along with the integral bolt handle and recoil lug the counter clockwise threaded bolt shroud was an interesting design feature. Depending on John's mood, the action prices would fluctuated between $300-500 on any given day.

Cody, I’ve tried email you pictures but it keeps coming back as delivery problem. Try emailing me and I’ll send them again. jwalden@bendcable.com. The parent case is the Remington 221 fireball necked up to 7mm.
