I would use the Leupold VxII 3-9x33 AO EFR for the rilfe, it can be used easily up to 300yds and and zoomed out for close calls.

The Leupold FX series are nice. Would be like the fixed version of the VX-3 line. That would be my pick for a straight six. I think they are priced a little more reasonably than the variable scopes as well.

i have a 6 x42 on my .257AI and my .257x 47 Lapua both set up as whitetail rifles. real nice and 90% of people never change the magnification on their scope anyway so i see no reason not too unless your hunting is close in.

I have a FXIII 6*42 on a ML and I love it.

I just recently bought a used Nikon Monarch 6*42 for $150. A lot of bang for $$$. Very impressed with it.

Sightron SII 6x42mm Big Sky

I have a 6-24x42 SII and honestly, I think 6x is still a little too much for a calling gun. My personal preference is 3x or 4x, actually. If I did it again I'd get a 4-16x variable Weaver or Pentax

Default Good Choice

I had an old Lupold M8 6X with a 2MOA dot on my dedicated Coyote rifle (Remmy 788) for about 20 yrs. Never realized I needed anything more untill they invented the Gun Show.

I recently aquired a used 2.5-8 VXIII at a good price, and doubt that I'll ever look any farther.. Even talked a couple of friends into going that route.. As a matter of fact, one of em just ordered his to day.
Truth be told though,,, I never take it of of 2.5X...

I'm a Lupold guy,, but the Monarch's are nice too, and usually a little more affordable....

I love a fixed six on a deer gun, but for a calling rifle I have to agree with Brain P. that it may be on the high side. I like the 3x9's because they are usually lower in cost, and 3x is just right for close in shooting and running shots. If you feel the need to dial it up for a longer shot you can. I love the Zeiss Conquest 3x9. I think it's one of the best buys out there. However, I must admit that if it's a gun that I know I'll be using for PD's as well, I always lean towards the 4-16's. At least that way I'll be able to use it on 4x for calling. Just my $0.02
