Default 22/204

I recently had a 22/204 built on a Sako 85 XS action

Loaded 25grains of 4198 behind some 40 Zmax this is the max load for the 222M

Does anyone shooting this cartridge have any loads they could share please.

Do a search for ALF on the Accurate reloading sight. He has posted quite a bit on the round. I know he shared loads and velocity and photo's comparing the .22-.204 to the .223AI and the .222 M AI . I have a reamer, but have yet built the gun. I am pretty sure he was using something with a slower burn rate like A2460. I like the idea, because like the .20 P it is a simple neck up of a very easy to obtain quality Norma case, with many others available. Be prepared to be told it's the same as a .222M AI, and why didn't you just build a .222M AI, and showing them photo's of the cases won't change others minds! Every time he posted on his, that's where the discussion lead. I think he was getting around 4000 with the 40 Vmax and around 3600?? with the 55 Vmax? I am pretty sure he had either a 8 or 9 twist. What twist barrel did you use?

Moorepower: Not knowing how the cartridge measurements vary, and you mention the 222 Rem Mag. What is the difference between them ? Is not the 204 R really just a 222 Rem Mag necked down to 204 cal ? Just curious, as the thought did cross my mind. Bill K

Alf had photo's on the Accurate shooter sight, of all the cases lined up. The neck angle is the same as the .204 and is a bit shorter. The BIG difference is you order, pull off of your shelf, Norma, RP, WW, Nosler, Privi, Hornady, Federal....... brass and expand the neck and shoot. Performance wise they are all is the same class. Coming from the people that shoot it, it feeds better from a magazine, and that is what headed me in that direction, and the fact I have a couple of thousand .204 cases, lying on the shelf. Yes you can fire form .204R to .222 M. Or you can buy some of the once a year .222 M brass. It could/ should have been called the .22 Practical, as like the .20 Practical it is much simpler and if you have the .204 Redding dies it makes dies much simpler. I don't think I have ever seen a more Bashed wildcat, ever. Every time he showed a gun or the photo, numerous guys would come on and start trashing. He didn't really even want to post about it before too long. I guess people just have to trash.

I see. I have a couple of 204 rugers and like them very much, for sure.
I also have had my 20 practical opened up to the 40 degree improved ( 20-223AI) and like that one also. Those three, along with my 20 SCC are my all time favorites rounds. So I can see where a 20-204 would be a good one. What's not too like ? BIll K

Bill, are you just trying to see if we're all paying attention or is this 20-204 some kind of new wildcat that's not a wildcat, maybe a non-wildcat, wildcat.

Just funning with you, I'm guessing you meant to type 22-204.

I gave the little Sako a run today

Acuracy was way better than I expected from a factory barrel and cleaned up with two wet patches of sweets a bit of a scrub with a Nylon bristle brush then 4 patches and it was shiney clean.

No chrono today but I was at 3 grains (with easy bolt left and no sign of pressure) over the Max for 222Mag using 4198 behind a 40 gr Vmax I hope it is somewhere around 4100 fps

And no it is not a 222Mag

Is the only difference then, since both cases measure 1.850 do I read, it has to be in shoulder angle right ? 23 vrs 30 degrees. Still curious. Bill K
