FS: Lothar Walther, .224 8 Twist....
For sale is a new, unfired, unchambered Lothar Walther blank in .224 caliber, 8 twist, 28" long. Breech diameter is 1.230" for 3.10" long, then inside radius taper to .700" muzzle diameter at 28.0" length. Pretty sure the steel is LW50, not chrome moly because the e-mail quote I received back from Lothar when I ordered the barrel says "special rifle steel" which I believe is their term for LW50. Also, the contour is No. 1450, aka "Super Magnum Sporter". I've had the barrel in my safe for about a year and have abandoned the project it was intended for. Price is $250.00 shipped CONUS with PayPal payment.
First e-mail to robjordan@citlink.net saying "I'll take it" gets the barrel. Thanks, Jordan Last edited by Jordan; 12-02-2018 at 11:47 PM. |

2nd price adjustment: Price is now $210.00 shipped CONUS. I don't anticipate any further price decreases.
Thanks, Jordan |

I believe what they called LW50 is actually 17-4 PH stainless steel, which is used for lots of specialty and high temperature aerospace applications. Just an FYI.

Thank you TinMan. I am not certain my barrel is LW50. I can't find my invoice but I did find the e-mail in which they quoted me back my specs and they called it "special rifle steel". I am assuming that is LW50, but it might not be. Is there an easy way to test the steel to see if it is stainless versus chrome moly? Thanks, Jordan

I'll try some cold blue on the breech end. If it takes then I'll know its chrome moly and if it doesn't then its LW50. Hell, even I can figure that out!

Is this one of their match grade barrels?

Jordan, try using a magnet to see if it attracts. If strong pull, it should be Cr-Mo steel like AISI 4140 or some thing similar. If a very weak pull, it could be a stainless barrel steel like AISI 416R. 17-4PH is magnetic also, but can't remember if it should be strong or weak pull.

I thought all their barrels were the same grade, but I could be wrong.
