Default Case trimmers

What's everybody recommend? My RCBS is getting pretty worn and does a poor job on 17 caliber cases, so its time to upgrade.

I'm leaning toward the electric Frankford Arsenal Case Prep station, but am curious about the original Forester Trimmer.

I have a spare Forester trimmer in a box somewhere if you decide to go that route.

Been using a Forster Power Trimmer on my drill press for 20 years. Works great. And yes, they have a cutter and pilot for 0.172.

+++1 what Hippy said. Not cheap but the Wilson/Sinclair is the best smoothest cut I've ever used.

Wink

Yup
Wilson !
I like that you can do so many things with it ! Put a drill on the end if you want power.
Love how, I can check the sizing with the holders. If you over, or under size your brass, you can see it with the Wilson holder.

Check squareness of the case to the base, by turning the holder with a case inserted, around, and turn the cutter a few times against the base. A high spot will show up.

If you plan to turn the necks, go with the Forster. I've done this to take off just the high spots on the necks, but on my factory chambers, I don't see much improvement.
The turning of the pilot often mars up the inside of the case, on my Formed 17 FB cases, a Wilson won't.

+ however many for Wilson. Power adapter for large quantities of rifle brass, once set-up it trims to near exact measurements. Been using one for to long to change now.
Lyman power trimmer for large quantities of straight wall pistol.

I have used the Lee Case trimmers with the "cartridge specific" pilot that fits into the cutter and the case holder chucked into my drill for years. It is fast and repeatable. There is no adjustment. The trim length is driven by the pilot specs.

I use a Wilson case trimmer with the shell holders by shell case for my long range cases. I feel this is the most accurate method (squared case mouth) that I have.

These are both kind of old school.

There are some really slick new tools (some powered) which seem like they would work well.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for all the help fellas! Looks like Wilson is in the lead, didn't expect that. I thought more people would have converted to electric. I'll check out Wilson.

Chad, electric IS nice at times. That's why Wilson, with power, gets my vote.

Silly old fashioned Wilson trimmers still have so much going for them...
