Default Shooting larger diameter bullets than standard bore size.

FWIW I have been shooting bullets up to .004” larger than they should be. Some with good accuracy and some not so much. I expected much more pressure spike than I’ve experienced.

I know in some case such a soft lead or even plated bullets they’ll run a little over than what they should be... but find it odd that some shoot very well this way. Anyone else have experience with this? The ones I’m using are like jacketed soft sp.

I’ve never read where many have done this and I suspect some have done so without even knowing it?

Could it be you're playing with fire a little doing that? A change of primer, change of powder, or change of powder charge could make a huge dangerous problem out of a nothingburger. I could see one or two thousandths, but...

i use cast boolits that are .002 - .003" over the dia. of the barrel. i have used a 7.5 french(.307") in a jacketed bullet using a 150gr hornady sp(.308"). the 30-40 krag has a bore dia that goes .308 - .314". fortunately ,mine is .3085" and i use 165gr ranch dog(.311").

I can't seem to find any info on it but I do remember reading about swage bore (or something to that extent) rifles that had special chambers and would intentionally swage down to a signficantly smaller bore.

One thought would be a .204-19 caliber .198. have a 19 caliber barrel chambered with a 20 caliber reamer but with a little extra help in the throating to help the process. Pressure would definitely be a byproduct however, but to what extent?

but one has to ask....why?

ETA: found it "squeeze bore"

hmm reading about it brings up an interesting concept. the "little john" adapter at the end of the muzzle to swage down the projectile by ~25% but being later in the pressure cycle of the round it increased barrel life vs a traditional squeeze bore and also increased muzzle velocity and sectional density thus flying flatter and penetrating better.

I wonder if one were to thread a muzzle adapter that had gradual taper from say 22-20 or 20-17 would react? one could even use this last section with a fast twist to help spin up the now long and heavy for caliber bullet. hmm....

I have seen this with cast lead bullets. Not uncommon because of malleability of lead. Don't try with thick jacketed bullet or solid core bullet.

Tongue in Cheek: A buddy was kind enough to shoot a .30cal bullet through my 5.56... It was a tight fit, but it cleared the barrel. It was deadly accurate. One shot -> $1,300 replacement upper.

I can't say enough about the construction of Daniel Defense "sporting" rifles! Lower was completely intact and functional sound.

This is exactly why I sold my 300 blk and everything related to it. Murphy is an A-hole.

Hardness of the core makes all the difference.

Awhile back I tried to resize I think it was 375's down to .358 and
stuck 'em in the sizer die til they were hard to hammer out. I couldn't
push them out even with the 2' handle on my big old Lyman 1950's turret.
