Default Vern. O.Brien.

I thought I’d read somewhere, long time ago, that Vern O Brien, shot and killed a grizzly bear with his 17 Mach IV.
Been googling but can’t find any info about that. Am i mistaken?
Thanks,Ken.

Here ya go. Swiped this from Keven many years ago.

That is Vern's note to Atkinson & Marquart rifles who built the rifles for him written after he got back from the hunt.

That is the actual picture of said hunt.
The question I've always had is do ya suppose that guy changed his shorts before or after he lit the cigarette??

Even more amazing IMO then the bear hunt above is this one. That is Bella Twin and that Brown Bear was killed by her with that .22 Long-Rifle she's holding, once again the lethal ear-hole shot.

Heard several versions of Bella's killing of that bear but her doing it is the one fact I've never heard refuted. I've heard that bear held the world record at one point

Default Vern O'brien

The short article calls it a 17 Mag. But way back, when I was starting into the 17's. I recall the photo and a short story, which said Vern used a 17/223 and shot the bear, with one or two shots to the head, on a dare from either the pilot or another hunter on the trip. Bill K

Bill I have no idea how it really went down I was busy getting ready to join the Corps on the date that note was written but if you read that note on the purchase order written by Vern himself it was his guide not Vern that actually shot the bear. If Kevin see's this he knows a lot more .17 History then anyone I know and he can sort it out to a certainty I'm sure.

I'm not Kevin, but IIRC, that is a picture of the pilot and the bear he killed with Vern's rifle that Vern mentions in his note.

After the event occurred, he was likely eating the cigarettes and not bothering to light up....................
