daryl have you tried 40 gr sierra hp in your 222? they don't expand at 221 fb velocities. shot a bunch of jacks with them and they just punch a pencil hole.
think I will try some 40 gr nosler balistictips, killed a train load of coyotes with them in a 221 fb model 7. I had a Remington 40xbr in 222 in the mid 80's, most boring rifle I ever owned. it just kept shooting those stupid little one hole groups. and then I was stupid and sold it because I wanted longer range for prairie dogs. my friends called it my eyeball rifle, you figure out why.

Hi Bob - no- haven't tried the Sierra HP's in the triple deuce. The box of them I had and tried for accuracy in the .22 Hornet, did say minimum vel. 3,600fps - or perhaps it was the Sierra loading manual notes on that bullet.
They were very V/accurate - that I remember, just at or barely over .150" at 100 metres. Buddy of mine thought they might make a good deer bullet for the Hornet, about that time, Alex sent me a picture of a 45gr. factory Hornet soft nose he recovered from a white tail - perfect expansion. My Sako A1 gives that accuracy with 40's (Barnes Varminators, Vmax and Ballistic Tips) and 52gr.Bergers and Sierras using the 4198's and Re#7. Gary, yes I agree, the .408" rim of the Bee helps considerably. I never did expand a primer pocket in that rifle, yet in experiments ran the 40gr. to 3,750fps at peak. I reduced them to 3,650fps for a "working load". That ran 3,550fps in the winter time.
