Finish sighting it in and that should be a super fine load for anything you want too hit.

The only thing I'd worry about with that high of a muzzle velocity is having the bullet blow up on the surface and not penetrate. It's my understanding that the NTX is a very fragile bullet... what will happen if you hit the shoulder or a rib on the way in?

Would it matter much on a Fox ? Unless of course he is selling pelts. Fox are pretty small and thin skinned, compared to a coyote.

However, with that said, I shot coyotes with the 15.5 NTX and it enters and does not exit, but this is on chest/head shots only.

shot a yode with a berger 15 hp 17 ah right in the shoulder blade. it was the only shot i had thru thick brush. he stood straight up pawing at the sky and fell over backwards DRT. the bullet was around 3950 fps and it blew a quarter sized hole thru the blade and into the lungs.
we were hunting fox and him showing up was a real surprise.

I often chuckle when someone mentions splash factor..
I wonder if they have ever actually taken a bullet they say splats and shot it into/on a 4-6 inch square piece of 1/4 to 1/2 inch piece of metal plate ?
They just might be surprised how it will drill a hole right through said plate.

The only fox I ever shot with a borrowed 17 Rem at about
30 yards was nearly blown in half with a rib shot.
The other two I killed with head shots with the .22LR.

Bill:
I test fired for comparison one time.

.222mag 55gr
'06 150 and `180s'.
7mm 175
.375H&H 270gr.

At a 1 1/2" scraper blade propped up solid so there was NO movement.

The depth was the same with every one of them.

Only the diameter of the crater was wider for the bigger slugs.

Yes, it surprised me much. Had three witness's at the time. All dead now.

1/4" steel is nothing, even a .22LR should dent it.

Put some velocity with it!

I've shot plenty of bullets against steel plate, railroad ties, Kevlar, Spectra, and other types of armor as well. I designed and built what was then WA state's largest indoor shooting range. I was the ballistics consultant for the subcontractor who designed the aircraft cabin armor retrofits post-9/11, developing the test protocols and building the test gun (a TC Contender Carbine with Bullberry test barrels) and creating the handloads (9mm, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum) for those protocols.

For those who doubt bullet blowup on the surface of critters, here's a clip from a coyote hunting video on YouTube... I've started it at the point where bullet splash and lack of penetration on a called coyote at close range occurs. Yes, the coyote is killed, but look at the massive surface wound. I imagine the bullet fragmented on the critter's sternum and while some parts obviously penetrated (likely along with bone fragments), the surface wound is spectacular. Warning: don't watch if you're squeamish. IMO this coyote died from massive blood loss, but the severity of the wound must have been painful enough to temporarily paralyze it until exsanguination.

So it blew, the coyote was till DOA and nothing wrong with that, unless you want too save the pelt. It don't. DOA, enter/explode or exit or even if it "
splashes" , as you say, the bullet did what it was supposed too do.
If you want a guarantee of enter or exit, then use a FMJ.

( by the way, that is a very fine video of all those kills)

i shot a coyote coming in quartering to me with a 220 swift 50 gr balistictip at 4000+ fps. hit him with a raking shot in the rib cage. there was a 6ft tall by 4 ft wide cloud come off him. as he was running away i thought to my self that was one dirty coyote. he ran about 60 yards and began to stumble and then fell over.
my calling partner at the time came up and ask me what that was, my response was "no clue"
when we examined him the bullet had hit him and blew all the hair/skin off him from his front shoulder to his tail. it looked like he had been skinned with the flesh undisturbed. one piece of the jacket had entered the rib cage and that is what killed him. if not for that he would have been in for a real cold winter.
