Default WTB 17-223 Hornady die set

I am looking for a Hornady 17-223 die set. My build will be done next month and everywhere I look is backordered. If anyone has a set or finds any I’d appreciate you letting me know. Thanks.

The 17-223 head to shoulder is ~.100" longer than the 17 Remington.
Chances are that you can use a 17 Remington die set to load ammo if you back off the sizing die until you can just get the bolt to close.

Johnly-

Possibly I could. I’d just like to have a set. Thank you.

I’m not familiar with the 17-223 but if you can’t find a set then, could you do as I did with my 20 practical (I actually prefer this over a dedicated die and have often wanted to sell my 17 rem upper and get a 17-223.

That’s a idea, what would you use for a seater ??

I think either a 17 rem or a 17 FB seater would work but I’d have to check when I get back home.

For my 20 practical, I’m using a 223 seater and bought the individual .204 seater stem from Hornady.

It’s a little bit of a PIA to deal things over and readjust (compared to how I normally change over my dies very fast with the LNL system) but I normally reload 400-500 rounds and then am dime for a while.

Hornady 17 Remington seat die, Ponsness Warren makes a window seat die and a 17 caliber sleeve.

What would I use for a seater? Vickerman hands down.

For 17 & 20 they really make handling the small bullets easier.

I have them in every caliber, most were bought decades ago from Winn Vickerman who made them in Ellensburg and Moses Lake.

The new micrometer ones I have in 17 & 20 caliber were really worth the additional cost. You can buy them from Dayton Machine Shop.

The original ones were never made in 17 & 20 cal.

Shortened .17 Remington dies work well, which is what I use on my 17-223.

Good shootin' -Al
