Default 20 Vartarg Ultimate build ideas

I’m looking at building a 20 Vartarg.
If you were building a 20 Vartarg what would be your….

Ultimate custom repeater action? Anyone done a BAT VR?

Ultimate custom single shot action? BAT SV or Borden?

Barrel make and twist rate?

A remington 700 footprint is preferable due to stock and trigger selection but not mandatory especially in the single shot action.

Thanks,

UPDATE: Just got the build finished. Thanks for all the input.

The VERY first thing I would do today, locate brass and dies.
AND before I did that I would do a large amount of research and study what you want it to do.

You'll either have to find some Nosler 221 brass to form or make your own from 223 brass. When making your own brass, it's a lot of steps to go through. Not hard, but a lot of time. You'll need your barreled action to make sure the headspacing is correct before you go too far on making the brass.

I have 2 VTs both Remingtons. One has a 22" Pac-Nor barrel and the other is a specialty pistol with a 15" McGowen barrel and they each have a 10 twist. I went with the faster twist for 40 gr bullets when the wind picks up. Both are single shot and very accurate. I use 2230 powder on both.

I'm right handed but prefer a left bolt, left port on the specialty pistol. It's very easy to work the bolt and load the pistol with my left hand without my right hand leaving the grip.

As mentioned above, find all the dies you'll need first

I have a repeater built on a Stiller Predator that I built after reading about one Adam Bentley built here. It functions and feeds perfectly and is maybe the last rifle I would ever sell. I had talked to Adam about his before building mine and his experience was the same at that time. After owning a few fireballs on a Remington 700 action I would do the Stiller every day and twice on Sunday before I went with a 700 Fireball action for a repeater. I am not sure what other actions would be an option, just giving you my experience with the Stiller and 700 actions.
For a single shot it is pretty much whatever action trips your fancy. I built a single shot on a Stiller after my experience with the repeater. It is one of my main prairie dog rifles and I wouldn’t change a thing. Not a Stiller fanboy, just happy with the few I have, especially the vartargs.

Find some dies, you can find brass if you put out enough feelers. I would help you out in a pinch. I started making my own out of .223 and it isn’t hard, just time consuming and costs a little bit to get everything you need.

Do you have one or know someone that has built one on a Tenacity?

If Defiance makes something that fits your application you can be assured it'll be of top quality. Glen Harrison doesn't make anything that isn't a top quality product.

BAT actions are my favorite but Defiance is a very close second for me but there is nothing second about a Defiance action it's just a personal choice because BAT is close to me.

BAT SV action - right bolt / left port single shot. Mullerworks 1/9 twist barrel. McMillan Nesika Varminter stock. Trigger Tech trigger. Hart single screw trigger guard. Scope of your choice. Done.

I have a Rem 700 fireball at the gunsmith currently looking to make it into a Vartarg. I am trying to research where to buy a reamer from. I have 1000 pieces of Rem 221 brass and don’t want to neck turn. So I am think .232 and zero free bore for the reamer. The smith doesn’t want to use PTG for quality reasons.

I have a barrel and will be shooting 32 gr Vmax primarily.
