Default Remington 17 Fireball UMC 25 gr JHP

Has anyone used the Remington UMC 17 Fireball 25 gr JHP ammo? I found some in a local store and bought it to try. How do it do in terms of accuracy and explosiveness?

Do you know? Is this old manufactured stuff or is it from the new post-bankruptcy Rem ammo company offshoot?

Just curious.

The old UMC stuff seemed adequate for cheapy factory ammo. I always shoot a box of factory ammo through a new factory rifle first for function testing, I often use the UMC as it saves me a few bucks and it always seems accurate enough for the purpose.

It’s the old stuff. I can’t find brass anywhere, so I figured it was worth it for the price they were asking.

Not sure of availability but Nosler makes .17 Fireball brass. One caveat is that it has less capacity than Remington brand.

Good to know about the capacity. I looked everywhere I knew on the internet for brass and could not find any.

Also Sleeping Giant Brass has reformed 17 FB brass on occasion.

Bought a couple of boxes several years ago for the brass. Accuracy was ok, but nothing to get excited about. Less than an inch at 100 but not by much.

I was thinking that would probably be the case. I will shoot some and see how it does and report back. The rifle is a Model 7 with a 20" barrel.
