What area of SW Colorado are you moving to? I'm here in Cortez, CO.
Moved here 4 years ago from NE California, no other reason than family.
Nice VS...thank you! Cortez will be the closest full-size town for us for shopping etc. We will live somewhere between it & Monticello, UT. However, it isn't fully baked yet as it's all contingent on the sale of our home which goes up for sale in 2 weeks...don't think it will take too long though. I'll keep you posted when things are more solid & maybe meet up. If all goes well, we will be living there full time by the spring of 2023.

You newbies to CO need to go E to Bayfield then North
to the Lizard Head Wilderness area. Take chow and cameras.

Some of the most beautiful mtns in the world. Great elk hunting
area too.

Be aware it can snow a FOOT an HOUR and 3-6l feet over night.
So don't go expecting a picnic and sunny warm temps.
Elk season one year during a hard snow. Two of us rode horses
across a big meadow. Could barely see our horses heads. Decided
to turn back. By the time we rode 200 yards we couldn't see where
we'd come thru in 18-20" of snow. In the morning there was over
4 feet of snow. We had a good hard topped trailer camp and canvas
cover over the horses pen they could get under that wouldn't cave in.

I've only been a CO (Fruita) resident for 4 years, (moved from MO) but I find the gun laws here to be reasonable. I have a CCW permit, night vision is legal on one's own land and some public land by permit from the CDW, and the magazine limit is largely unenforced. Our sheriff (Mesa County) publicly stated he would not enforce it.

Only quirks I had when moving here were: you can't get a resident hunting license in CO until you have been a resident for 6 months, and at 62 years old they said I had to have a Hunters Safety Certificate (never needed one any other state I lived in), but I was able to take an online test on which you must get a 90% correct score to be exempt. I have 4 or 5 suppressors, and 2 of them were purchased while I lived here.
