Day at the range...
Had to share.
Went out to Sac Valley range today. Weather was clear, cold and breezy. Son-in-law (Meathead to the family) got a G2 in .223 for Christmas. His first gun. it is a 14" barrel and I put an inexpensive 2-7 scope on it. He did real well at 50 yards. i explained how and he zeroed it by himself. He had one 5 shot group at 50 that was under 1.5". At 100 yards he has a long ways to go, but we are working on his trigger control. Eight y.o. son took the 10/22. I can't pry it from him usually. he did good, 1-2" groups at 50 yards are the norm. I took out two new ones. A .22 carbine contender with a chamber cut special for SSS Aguila ammo. it printed 5 shot groups inside 1/2", but at 100 yards I might as well have been throwing rocks. I don't know if it is the ammo, the wind or a combination of both, but I figure it was mostly due to the SubSonic velocity. The second was a .17 HMR Marlin. Shot a box of Hornadys through it and it does shoot sweet. I think the best group at 100 was about .75". I'm sure the gun can shoot better than me. That was the day today, it's hard to beat shooting with family (and not coming home with a bruised shoulder - lol). |
