6x45
Thinking about having a CZ 527 I rarely shoot re-barreled to 6x45 (I have other .223’s). Was considering using mostly 70gr bullets. Looking for some input from those shooting a 6x45. Powers, twist rate, bullets, accuracy? Would be used mostly for PDogs.
Thanks... |

6x45
I had a Cooper MTV in 6x45 that shot 65 gr VMax really well. I ran them at about 3100 fps, very destructive on Varmint's. I have been thinking of doing the very same thing you are pondering.

accurate arms 2200 with 70 gr nosler/speer tnt. twist should be 1-9 or 1-10 just like the 243. it should shoot 55-80's at reasonable velocities.

I have a 6x45 on a Remington 700 action with a 24" Pacnor 10 twist barrel shooting 80grn ballistic tips right at 3000fps with IMR 820XBR powder. Very accurate rifle. The rifle also shoots Sierra 80grn. #1515 Varmenter bullets and Speed 75grn. HP bullets as well.

I did the same thing with a Cooper 223. Sent it off and had every intention of shooting 70 gr when it came back. I had some 55 gr SBKs so I tried some for initial testing. They shoot so good I have yet to go heavier. Running them right at 3350 fps.

6mm Twist
I started a thread on this a week ago. There is a link to database of load data for all weights of bullets.
My experience with .243 (6mm) is a 24" barrel (1:9.25 twist) would stabilize all the way to 95gr SMK. New barrel is still 24" but with 1:8 twist, which stabilizes out to 115gr (not that you would fit or want to run this heavy out of 223 case). You don't have to worry about excessive twist rate so pick a 1:9 or even 1:8. These faster rates work great for short or long barrel length. |

I'm with foxhunter, 'cept go 3 groove 8 twist, budget shooting the 70 varmageddon or TNT at 3100-3200 FPS in front of AA2200 280+K RPM easy on barrel and splats. I feel strongly the 6x45 or any 6mm 223 needs at least 2.400" OAL capable mags, its stunted in a 2.260" OAL world. 27"-28" barrel is a definite plus for velocity over 20-24".

Believe Kenbro fought the battle with this not long ago.
He's on a trip right now, maybe he'll chime in soon as he gets back. In the UK, they have to meet an arbitrary impact rating for hunting. He was crowding the max pressure and barely making it as I recall. Don't know the bullets, seems like 80gr. Know he used it on a fallow deer and did well. Don't recall what else he shot with it.

I have one built by JD Jones...
It’s a 15” pistol and a good shooter. So far I have only shot 70 Nosler Target bullets in it.I watched a friend shoot his 6x45 Contender pistol and he regularly hits targets beyond 1000 yards with his.He is on you tube, you may have seen his Zombie head challenge. This thread has got me thinking I should load up some 55 and 65 grain poly tipped bullets to be ready for Varmint season.

It was the 25-45 i messed with George. Bit more grunt than the 6x45, but, 87 and 90grain bullets were the optimun for that caliber. Don’t think it would fare as well as the 6x45 with lighter bullets. Ken.
