I have a ruger 77/22 Hornet. It shoots great, but I can't figure out why the action is so long. The receiver is custom made just for the Hornet. A regular full size short action in WSM is shorter. With the can installed it's a bit unwieldy. I guess I need to cut a few inches off the 24" barrel.

I also got a cooper M38 which is a more appropriate size for a hornet. If I had the cooper first, I would not have purchased the ruger.

I own several M38 Coopers and I really like them. But I'll take the longer Ruger action and live with it in a hunting rifle since its a repeater while the M38 isn't. Especially since I can buy at least two Rugers for each M38 I might buy.

This harkens back to old discussions in other times where the dainty Cooper Model 21 actions were considered to be too big for certain Cooper offered cartridges...........
