Default Redding custom forming dies

Hi folks hope your all doing well .

Question for anyone who has used Redding for custom made forming dies - to form one case down to another? Iv read they offer this service, i think you write in describing what your wanting to do & giving finished dimensions etc. And they say weather or not its possible. Are they even still manufacturing atm ? I will contact them ! I would like to form a 221 down to a 17 and bump the shoulder down a fair bit probable slightly longer than 17tcm but with 17rem neck and shoulder 23° i think from memory.
Or is there another company in the us that could machine forming dies for me ? Any pointers would be great if any . Im uk based , probable haven't visited here for couple of years .. Atb

I've got 3 doubled ended forming dies from Bullberry they work extremely well, tell them what your doing and they will size accordingly.

gunner, If I was looking for dies for that project I would take a look at paul bikes die set. I think its about a $150 bucks for a set and there isn't anything they won't do.. Mine didn't come from Paul. Skip Otto made mine for me about 35 years ago when I was making 17 Mach1V and everything in between from 223 brass. Its the same concept.

When I got the Cooper VR from Foxhunter
he included a bulberry die. It's one stroke and done.

I'd borrowed the set of bushings from Paul and made my
own copy. Using them was taking me seven steps!

Man I was tickled to get the bulberry!

I've never had any dealings with them other than using this die.

bet they know what you want to do and can make one up for you
a hell of a lot cheaper than any $150 though.

Far as just sizing from 221 down to 17, just use your 17 cal die. that's
what I did with the Vtarg cases. both 17 fireballs and 221's. One stroke
and done.

gunner,

Here is a link to Pauls die set. You will have to click on his name to get his email addy as he only answers emails. He is to busy with his day job to frequent the forums.

The link also has pictures and comments from the guys who have used this style of die. Skip Otto made mine for me but Skip has been gone a gone time. I have forming dies from Bullberry and one other gentleman. The gentleman is a well known smith. I contacted him for another set, he was quick to exclaim "NEVER AGAIN".

Nothing worse than rumpling up a piece of Lapua brass while you are trying to form brass so I didn't mind paying the price for good forming dies. Not only is it pricey but it puts me up the tree to wind up with a box of less than 50 or 100 because I mooshed a few while forming. I don't think any of us know exactly where things are headed on shortages. Brass was hard to come by a few years ago. Also good lube is paramount on hard squeeze sizing.
