20 Vartarg reloading questions
I have Remington and Lapua 221 Fireball brass. My question is whose dies are you all using? Cooper told me I have a .232 neck, is this a no turn neck?

I use Whidden dies for my 20VT/20SCC. Same .232 neck and I do not turn, other than to take off high spots. But then I don't use Lapua brass, which you may have to turn, as most report it being thick. Your rifle will let you know. Bill K

20 vt
I use Redding dies and necked down Rem 221 fb brass.
I don’t turn necks. Believe my chamber is .234. |

I have a Cooper .20 VarTarg. The brass I have is formed from Remington and Nosler .221 Fireball. I don't turn my brass.
Remington brass loaded with a 32 gr. Sierra BlitzKing measures 0.228 inch across the neck. Nosler brass loaded with a 32 gr. Hornady V-Max measures 0.229 inch across the neck. I have not tried Lapua yet, but if there are guys using Lapua .221 Fireball brass to form .20 VarTarg, they have to be around here somewhere. My die set is Redding Type S-Bushing Style Neck Sizing Die #78636, a three-die set with seater, body, and bushing neck-sizer dies. I bought a 0.237-inch bushing for an intermediate step down and a 0.227-inch bushing for the final step. Turns out the body die will do the intermediate step down so I only needed the final bushing. A lot of guys here use a 0.228-inch bushing for the final step and none of us are complaining, so take your pick if you go the bushing route. Last edited by DittoHead; 06-15-2019 at 09:05 PM. Reason: Forgot the dies. |

Load some new brass and measure. My bet? You'll have to turn.
I went with a .234 neck reamer just so I didn't have to turn. YMMV. |
