Default 17 FB brass

If any one is interested Precision Shooters had a small amount of Rem. Fireball brass available.
Took a little left a little.

I picked up some Nosler Seconds, from http://www.shootersproshop.com/ . $39.95 per 100. They were short 1.395" and the necks were thick .019"
I'm turning the necks now.

Just a heads up, if you have a custom 17FB, rethink the Nosler brass. As posted above, it's thicker all the way through and shorter and has less powder capacity. My load of 133 in a piece of Remington brass almost filled the Nosler and therefore rendered them unusable.

I agree the Nosler brass is thicker all around.
I wonder if they will expand a little after firing ?

I turned the necks on 50, from .019, down to .014 some a little over. Loaded them with a light load of H-4198, and a 20 gr V-max on top. Seated fairly deep.
Shot 20 trough my factory 700. Not a terrible group, Pretty good on the vertical, but the wind drifted them quite a bit at 200 yds.

I had one case that I noted a very light seating pressure, when loading. It threw the V-max high and right. I expected to see a crack ! It looked fine, but I put it in the cull basket, anyway.

I did weight sort. It didn't vary as much as the 223 brass, that I sorted a few days earlier, but being smaller, it shouldn't.

Sorting didn't really make an obvious difference.

Pretty early to draw a hard conclusion, but I will continue testing .

I hope Nosler gets its Brass together some time soon. There are not a lot of makers of quality brass and to have Nosler producing some of the poor brass it is putting out lately is hugely disappointing, especially when you pay such a premium for it. Never liked to idea of forming 221 from 223 but to get good brass a fellow may have no other choice.
