Default VSSF Magazine Question...

I have a Rem 700 VSSF, BDL configuration, which was originally a .220 Swift. I have rebarreled it to .20 Beggs, using a Shilen blank and PPC faced bolt from PT&G. It's showing some promise of being quite a shooter. This is encouraging as it's my first re-barreling job done in my own shop.

I have not been able to make it function reliably through the magazine as the mag was for the Swift originally and the Beggs is quite a bit shorter. I can get it to feed a single round from the magazine, but it's excessive length allows the cartridges too much room to roam.

Is there a way to make this combination of magazine and cartridge work together? Do I need to get a whole different magazine assembly? I have not seen them available for shorter cartridges. I tried ordering a short follower and filler block from Brownells, but the mag spring and it's attachment to the floorplate didn't fit the new parts. If it comes to it, I can always use a single shot floorplate and forget about it as a repeater, but I'd like it if loading more than one cartridge was still an option.

Take a look at this article from Mike Bryant. It is for the BR cases.

You might have a tough time with the Beggs because it is a little smaller in diameter. May have to play with the mag box. An ideal set up would be a center feed like Wyatt makes for the Ultra mag and WSM cases.

Good luck!
