Default 204 fast twist w/55's

Hey guys out there who shoot 20 caliber 55 gn. Bergers in whatever, I was wondering how much twist you need, Berger says 1/7 is that right?

And what kind of speed your getting in whatever cartridge your shooting.

I've wanted to build a 20 something to specifically shoot 55 Bergers I think that would be a cool gun for long range Pdogs.

Thanks in advance, good info before a project is priceless, again Thanks.

Sherm, you're not getting 3750 from a 204R?
I am also intrigued with those 55's but I sure hate to build a rifle for only one available bullet. There seems to be a need for some 45-50gr high bc bullets.

Nope, CRTS 20 Nitro, if your at sea level and down around 3200-3300 then I think a 8tw would be better suited

Does X-caliber make an 8 twist barrel?
Personally, out to 500 is a piece of cake with 39 or 40 grain bullets in the 204R.
Those 55's might start to shine beyond 600 especially with a little more powder capacity.

I bet it will do a fine job at 1000. My 20BR with 40 Vmax was slapping the steel at Badger Bob's range a couple weeks ago. Light wind. X-caliber 10 twist barrel. Shoots .2's and .3's at 100

Default 20 cal twist

I built a 20 PPC with a 8.5 twist PAC-NOR barrel. It will stabilze 39 - 40 - 50 -& 55 gr bullets just fine.

At your altitude in SF you can go with a slower twist if needed. I have never had an issue with having too much twist in a big game rifle and being able to shoot all bullet weights but I have not tried fast twist bbls in the smaller bores. I have shot an 8 twist 308 to extend its LR capabilities and still been able to shoot 110's with no problem. You will get a little higher pressure with a faster twist from what I have experienced.
