The American War Memorial Cemetery in Manila, Philippines was always one of those memorable places for me, as is Appomattox, VA, and the graves that are located there. But nothing ever really compares with my boyhood memories of our small town Memorial Day Parade down Main St of Winchester, OH, which culminated at the local cemetery where American flags would be placed on veterans graves, and the howitzer at the cemetery entrance would be fired by members of the local American Legion to salute those veterans interred there. May God bless the USA.

Thanks, Allen. As Hal said, 'good post'.

It is a somber holiday, and should be treated as such. It certainly is for me, as I spent the better part of the day reminiscing about the buddies that did not come home with me. My flags are proudly displayed out front in their memory.

And as ae35 mentioned, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat if we were threatened. God bless this wonderful country!

(I immigrated to the USA on an old Dutch freighter in 1952...got my green card, became a US citizen on my mothers deathbed by a kind federal judge just before she passed in 1958. My US Citizenship is my most cherished possession, next to life itself.)
