Anschutz or Kimber for 22 Hornet
I am looking at buying a 22 Hornet rifle. I have come to terms with the crazy prices and realize if I want a 22 Hornet rifle I must pay to play. That being said I am considering an Anschutz 1771 or for the same money I can buy a like new Kimber of Oregon and perhaps with a little more looking an Anschutz 1432 or 1730. What say you in regards to a 22 Hornet rifle?

What is your intended use for this rifle? Have you considered the 17 Hornet? Possibly might be a better soloution?

I own or have owned a 22H and/or a 22KH in a Win. M70, Win. M43, Anschutz 54 action, Kimber of Oregon M82, and a Cooper M38. My preference is a Cooper Model 38 in 22KH. The Cooper was the most accurate and I prefer the front locking lugs. The Kimber, the Win. 43, and the Anschutz have rear locking lugs.

I own a CZ 17 Hornet. I have owned a few 22 Hornets over the years and regret not keeping a 22 Hornet rifle.
The newest Anschutz - the 1771 - is a front locking lug action. However, it is difficult finding reviews on the Hornet cartridges on this action. |

I have four 22 Hornets, Ruger No.3, Kimber of Oregon M82, Cooper M38 and a CZ 527. All of them will shoot sub 0.5 MOA with their preferred loads. I like the Kimber, but it is a RF based action, because of its age, parts for it are almost unobtainable, in my opinion. I would pick the Cooper M38 or a CZ 527 if you can find one. I bought the CZ used to build a 17AH before the 17HH waas introduce, but shot it before converting. Using factory 22 Hornet Winchester silver box 46gr SP, it shot 0.4" for five shots at 100 yds. It stayed a 22 Hornet. With preferred handloads, both will shoot a bit better with 40gr varmint bullets like the VMAX or NBT.

256wm: I have been shooting 22 Hornets & 218 Bee`s since 1963. I have owned or shot several of them over the years. And the best 22 Hornet I have ever owned or shot is the CZ 527 22 Hornet American that I have right now. I have owned this rifle for 10+ years now and I shoot it alot. And I like it more every time I use it. My CZ 527 22 Hornet will shoot 1/2 inch or less at a 100 yds using Hornady 35 gr V-Max bullets & IMR 4227 powder. IMHO the 22 Hornet is just a great small varmint round.

22 hornet
I’ve owned many of them. Currently I have a heavy barrel Anschutz 1730, and same gun in a sporter barrel. Both are very accurate, around 1/2” groups at 100.
I’ve owned a Kimber 82 custom classic, it was an excellent rifle, beautiful and easily sub 1” groups. I had two Rugers, a 77 and #1, both were “dogs” accuracy wise. Would never own either again. And I owned Coopers in 17 AH. And 22 AH. Both were pretty good accuracy wise, but a little behind the Anschutz. And I just bought a Winchester 1885. It seems accurate, just sub 1” groups, but I’ve not had much time with it. Doubt it will come close to the Anschutz. I’ve not owned a CZ. Parts availability is an issue, if you need parts on the Kimber 82. I believe the Coopers are all single shot, mine were. Hard to beat the Anschutz, except the price. |

Doug has at least one .22 Hornet in an Anschutz rifle.

I found while the 35gr. Vmax shot well at 100 meters/yards, they started to suck past 150yards & went to 2 1/2" by 100. The 40's, Barnes, Vmax and Noslers all still shot into 1" or a bit better at 200.
