I am patiently waiting for the 6ARC to show up. Mine is a .222 with the 20" heavy barrel and it is a dream to sling up and carry. Stocky's sells the CF stocks that Legacy is using and with the light weight barrel it could be under 5.5# scoped.

[quote=JSH;305790]I need another project like a hole in the head. I really like the Howa Mini, have three now and another wouldn’t bother me.

I think a lot of us are of the same mind, but this addiction of ours sure beats a whole bunch of other addictions.

As my gunsmith often tells me, "there's worse things you could spend your money on".

I'm not sure if Howa uses something on the threads or if they just put them on gorilla tight but it seems to be pretty common practice to use a relief cut to help unscrew the barrel in a Howa. Used a Howa LA 1500 to build a semi custom 6.5-06AI and first thing he did was make a relief cut, then unscrewed the barrel.

I think the Mini is pretty good for the price. I've been waiting a few years for a good magazine to come out for them. MDT was going to make one, but their new project might actually get it done:

The full size howa 1500 barrels sometimes need to be cut off but I've removed my 2 mini barrels without much trouble.

The Howa Mini-Action is a great donor rifle for small caliber tinkering. Here are some pictures of my .17 and .221 Fireballs (.221 is the wood one):

Both .17 Fireballs:

If I were not already overstretched I would buy one of those barreled actions.

I put one together in 20P and used an AT-One Thumbhole stock. The mag well and mag release are DIP replacement parts. We like it. It’s a good looking rifle that shoots and functions quite well.

I am with others on the magazine’s. There is some pretty nice flush bottom metal out there, I am grateful for those that supply them.
The mini is not easily loaded from the top with those folks that be large digits.
I am with others that wish for a good magazine and better latch design. DIP makes one, but could use some improvement. A smaller flush fitting magazine would make me happy, 3-5 round.

What surprises me on these is how smooth they can feed when tuned a little. My 222, I catch myself opening the bolt to see if it picked up a round.

Nice looking Eric. Beautiful wood on the one, for sure.

Thanks! That was a Boyd's clearance that someone ordered, then canceled.
