Default Comprehensive corrosion test: 46 products compared

I stumbled on this a couple weeks ago. To say I am impressed is an understatement. How I came across it is anyone’s guess, I’ve never heard of the site before.

I really have to hand it to the guy. I use the Hornady product as well as the WD40 product that did well. Have never used the winner, but have friends who swear by it.

Interesting. I tested many cleaners and lubes and CLP products including most he shows and my findings were a bit different.
Best lube and rust preventive was go juice
Best CLP was a draw between Adiga Armory and Prolix. One is a dry lube and one wet.
Best solvent, this was more complex because nothing dissolved the hard bore carbon. This hard bore carbon has to be removed by abrasive products. The best were JB bore paste and KG-2. I preferred KG-2 because it was less messy and easier to remove.
For bore cleaning as a whole, I found Flitz bore cleaner/liquid polish performed best. Although it took some scrubbing, it removed everything including hard carbon.
With all this said, this is often a matter of personal preference and everyone has a favorite. I will say this, if you arent verifying with a bore scope then its very likely your bore isnt clean. I saw a number of products that would not remove hard carbon but clean patches were achieved. Keep in mind that most anything will removed powder fouling. There is a lot of hype out there and having tested most products, I can say there are some popular ones that are essentially useless. Although there is much more, I'll stop here.

This test is specific and primarily limited to corrosion and is very comprehensive.

For bore cleaning I use Bore Tech Cu+2 for copper and Quicksilver Power Tune to remove carbon. I have used other products previously for both, but these really get it done. I have used the Power Tune for twenty-five years and after going after the carbon with other cleaners. Brushing followed by patches that come out clean using other products when followed by the Power Tune and a nylon brush has left others absolutely amazed. Patches after will come out absolutely black. Fouling is almost always in layers of copper and carbon and multiple iterations of revealing copper beneath carbon that can then be gone after with your favorite copper remover is the only way I have found to get a barrel totally clean.

A good borescope does tell the story.

I agree with the old Mercury Marine products, have used them for years in the outboard engines and also on bore cleaning, for carbon especially.
A lot of old timers knew that little trick and product.
I guess part of it comes from working in a boat shop and repair work.

I recall reading/seeing this a number of years ago I think that test was done about 10 years ago.

I think the Power Tune used to be called Quicksilver Top Engine Cleaner. I remember going to buy some when I ran out and could not locate it and someone told me it is Power Tune. That seems to be the case. If there is anything that does as good of a job on carbon fouling, it is a well kept secret.

I think I first learned about using it on carbon from the bench rest shooters.

As others have said, this has floated around the internet for quite a few years.

As we well know BCB, this, Red's, ATF, Kroil and a couple other oldies, that old timers have used for years, is nothing new. They just work and work well.

I mostly use wipe out for the last ~20 years but have an entire cabinet full of them all… not sure how well it protects but haven’t noticed any used. Even have some of the GM top engine cleaner (the old stuff).

I remember an old 17 Jet barrel, it was by far the worst barrel I ever cleaned and I can’t say anything made it an day task lol.

Edit: I live a pretty sheltered life it’s the first time I ever seen it and I really didn’t even read it very closely, just scanned through it
