Default 20 MOA bases

At what distances are 20 MOA bases useful?

A lot will depend on the specifics of the setup but a 0 MOA base will get you to 600-ish and a 20 MOA for 600-ish + shooting.

That’s highly dependent on caliber to. For instance for a 22LR I would never go less than a 20 moa base. For most modern scopes there is no downside to a 20 moa base.

Its highly dependent on caliber and scope m.o.a travel.
At one time I believe some swaros only had mid 50's m.o.a elevation adjustment. The NF i use in all my LR stuff have 100 m.o.a. elevation

Many, if not most scopes are going to be more precise within the range where the reticle centered in the scope. Having a 20 MOA base will almost demand that out to quite long range accuracy will suffer. If I was doing most of my shooting between 100 - 600 yards I would like my scope to perform at it's maximum within that range.

However if I was shooting primarily 400 - 1,000+ I might go with such a base.

Under 600, standard will work fine. But if you want out further and beyond, you will find you must go to at least a 20moa base.

I have an older Bausch and Lomb 4200 6x24 that is 1/8 m.o.a per click that maxs out at 500 yards on a 0 m.o.a base.
